About Kaleidico
In 2003 Bill Rice was riding high in the heyday of the mortgage refinance boom. He had come off the successful building and selling of an Internet-only bank (DeepGreen Bank) and had helped Quicken Loans automate their home equity business. He had become a software guy that had learned a lot about mortgage and marketing. Software people like to build things. They see opportunities and they want to make them easier, they see users with problems and they want to solve them, they see inefficiency and they want to code it out - this was the stirring of a new company. There were few markets that harvested opportunity more inefficiently than the mortgage industry in 2003, and Kaleidico was born.
Originally, Kaleidico set out to make loan officers and mortgage broker faster and more efficient at making loans, but somewhere along the way we became something different. Sure we accomplished the original goal. There is no mortgage CRM that can convert better or help loan officers crank out more loans than Kaleidico's Sales Manager. But, we are something bigger than that now - we are a small independent software company.
Maybe that is not a powerful statement to a venture capitalist, but it is magical in a few ways:
- Pretty impressive for a companies who's first product was mortgage CRM
- We love making cool software and we love our software engineers
- We have our priorities straight: happy people + cool projects = profits
- We don't take VC money or government bail-outs
- We have tons of fun!
